Background
I grew up in North London and have a strong connection with this city but have also lived abroad. I spent five years living in Greece and eight years in America, exploring different ways of being, studying and working. Before moving into psychotherapy, I worked in film, spending much of my time in script development. A continuing theme in the work I have done has been an interest in how we use the arts to make sense of life. My own creative explorations revolve around writing, pottery, visual arts and cooking. I am also interested in spirituality, myth and ancient wisdom traditions. For the past three years I have been developing shamanic journeying skills through courses offered at Spectrum. Journeying is a powerful and illuminating practice, a form of awake dreaming that has been practised all over the world for thousands of years.
Training
I have a Masters in Counselling Psychology with Expressive Arts Therapy - over 2000 hours of clinical training and professional development. I am British but trained in the United States at the
California Institute of Integral Studies, one of the few institutes in the world that offers a counselling psychology training that includes expressive arts. CIIS is an accredited institute and its psychology training programmes fulfil the rigorous academic requirements of the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and state licensing laws for psychotherapy. California has one of the most exacting state licences for psychotherapy in the United States. I completed my clinical practicum at Berkeley Creative Living Center, a drop-in day care centre for the chronically mentally ill in Berkeley, California.
Professional Affiliation
My training is recognised by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (
BACP) and I was granted full membership of BACP on my return to live and practise in the UK. I am in continuing professional development and supervision at
Spectrum in North London. Spectrum is a United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (
UKCP) member organisation. I am also a professional member of the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (
IEATA). I am bound by the codes of ethics of BACP, Spectrum and UKCP.
